A Typical Franchisee – The First 6 Months
Our typical franchisee (we'll call him John) has already decided The Gallagher's Boxty House is the right thing for him by visiting the web site (www.franchiseboxtyhouse.com) and reading the Mini Prospectus.
He then decides to call "International Franchise Management Consultants" (IFMC), for more information (01 612 1459). His call is answered and after explaining his information request he is asked to leave his contact details for the Franchise Support Director to call him back.
Within 24 hours of calling he receives a call from Paul, the 'Franchise Support Director' who speaks to him in detail about the franchise concept and assesses John's suitability.
John demonstrates his credentials. He has relevant experience and a passion for delivering a consistent high quality service. He can demonstrate that he has access to significant investment funding.
And most importantly…
He has the drive, desire, and ambition to be the best! He is then invited to Head Office to meet Paul. During the morning John sees that the support infrastructure is exactly what he needs, and is impressed by the level of franchisor input. John finds that the franchisor demonstrates and shares his passion for food and quality service.
He demonstrates his suitability by asking relevant questions and his enthusiasm and commitment to be the best is unwavering. Both John and Paul feel that there is real potential in further discussion. So John leaves the meeting with more detailed information to review and a further meeting with all of the directors of Gallagher's is arranged.
So far John has liked what he has seen and is looking forward to his next meeting with the principle directors of Gallagher's. In the meantime he starts completing his due diligence investigations and research, so that he is well prepared for the meeting to impress.
The day of the meeting quickly draws around and having done his homework, John is well prepared. The quality of his research gives a great impression and John is very pleased to hear straightforward answers to all his questions.
On a personal level, it is clear that everyone around the table share the same positive attitude and ethos – in short a group of people who could work together! A mutual decision is reached between John and the Directors, and John is invited to take up a franchise.
In the following weeks, John seeks professional advice on the Franchise Contract and consults with his accountant and bank manager.
He also completes a Business Plan, which is subsequently checked by the Franchise Support Director at Head Office. With his Business Plan all in order, he makes his approaches to his chosen lenders and our recommended lenders, and secures an agreement in principle.
With his initial business financial and legal planning complete, John is more than happy to sign his franchise agreement and pay his initial fee. A date is set 2 weeks later with Head Office, to commence initial training, which covers the site search and selection process. With the decision made John wants to commence as soon as possible!
Two weeks pass very quickly; John has already started looking at the local property market and has started to develop a feel for what is available. Attending the training John is excited albeit a little apprehensive.
He benefits from the one to one training on the course and as each day passes his confidence grows and grows. He knows he's made the right decision.
Leaving this initial training armed with a auctioneers site requirement pack and the knowledge of the specific site location process, he returns home full of confidence with his ability to commence his property search.
During the next 8 weeks John looks at the details of large numbers of properties. All the time having regular discussions with the Franchise Support Director and head office team. Finally the perfect location is found and John is reassured when the support team visit and confirm and approve it's as a suitable location.
The following months see negotiation, agreement and contracts exchanged between the landlord and John. While these property purchase arrangements are underway, John is not wasting any time. Working with the Head Office team, he has started planning the implementation and fit out project.
Finally the property contracts are signed!
The next few months are a blur of activity, project plans are completed, contractors appointed, staff recruited & trained, marketing plans set and costed, build works supervised… the list seems endless…!
All through this process the central support team are providing advice, guidance and assistance making problems solvable and ensuring the project keeps on track. Many times John reflects on how valuable that support and knowledge is!
In the midst of the above John and his newly appointed head chef and deputy manager have complete their 'on job' training in the Dublin Branch of Gallagher's Boxty House. Returning fully armed with the knowledge required to recruit and train their own "boxty people".
Soon opening day draws around, it has been many long months since starting out on this road, but it has passed quickly and has been achieved thanks to his own hard work and the step by step support provided by Head Office. In the final week senior management from Dublin have been on site every day to help and they will be for the opening week. The result of all this effort is a fantastic looking restaurant with a superbly trained team in place – "something to be proud of" thinks John to himself, as he cuts the ribbon and opens the doors for the first time…
