1. Is there demand for your business?
Short answer is; Yes! And we have the trading results and profits to back this up. But if you are in any about the business potential, consider the following independent research……
As Ireland has become more affluent, our eating habits have changed to reflect cultural influences arising from increased travel abroad, changing work patterns and increased discretionary spend. For the first time in our history, we spend more on food to eat outside the home than in the home, which illustrates the transformation that has happened in Ireland in the past decade.
If eating out was once the preserve of the ‘well to do’ in Ireland, it is certainly no longer the case.
And in regard to traditional food…
43% of the Irish people list traditional meat and 2 veg as there favourite food when eating out over any other – ie Chinese, Thai etc
(Food Futures Study by Aramark consulting)
Whilst our healthy menu with real home cooked recipes also places us squarely in the growth sector of the market…
“Among the general trends likely to shape the market over the next few years, one stands out: the growing public awareness of food-related health issues. While it seems unlikely this will lead to people eating out less often, it will affect what operators put on their menus. The fast food sector, however, is likely to suffer as a result of health concerns.”
“Nevertheless, underlying socio-demographic trends, notably the increase in dual-income households and a rise in disposable income, bode well for the future. And despite a slowdown in consumer spending” … “economic trends are also favourable.” (Source – Mirtil)
So we have a business with a enviable, long profitable trading history, in the largest sector of a growing market. A Fantastic Opportunity!
2. How hard is it to attract customers?
Getting customers through the door is the key to success in any restaurant, fortunately our franchisees will benefit in a number of ways:
- Head Office will be actively involved with the initial site selection, which is critical in attracting “walk by” customers.
- We ensure that the fit out is optimal and the training is second to none – which results in very high levels of repeat business.
- With Year of development we have perfected the sales and marketing strategies needed to draw customers.
- The franchisee will benefit from a tailored launch and development plan to ensure the business get off to a flying start!
3. What's the competition like?
Fortunately we have little by way of direct competitors; most new entrants into the market place are focusing on other niches in the restaurant business – Thai, Mediterranean, Mongolian, Chinese, Fast Food etc.
This leaves the market wide open for us and our quality offer that appeals to such a wide variety of people.
4. What type of person is perfect for this business?
We are very selective about the people we take on board. Why? Because our success is directly related to your success. Therefore we can’t afford to accept just anyone.
We know that owning a Gallagher’s Boxty House is an attractive proposition, that’s why we do have a stringent policy on recruitment. For starters you must have the following qualities, or we won’t even consider you …
- Are highly motivated
- Have a good, relevant business experience
- Have access to the required funding
- Have proven yourself as a leader
- Can demonstrate a passion for customer service
- Are a high achiever
And most importantly…
- Have the drive, desire, and ambition to be the best!
5. Can I really earn over €250,000 a year?
Yes you can. If you mirror the success of the original restaraunt. But don’t for one minute think that it’s a ‘walk in the park’. You still have to earn your money! You do have to put the effort in, but because our systems are so detailed and straightforward you work smarter – not harder.
6. What support structure do you have in place?
We believe that the support structure of any Franchise organisation is one of the most important aspects of running a successful Franchise.
You have to know that you’ll never be left alone ‘to get on with it’. Of course our training is so detailed you won’t need constant supervision, but you will need help from time to time.
That’s why we have a structure in place that ensures your success…
Franchise Support Directors Monitor and report back to central office weekly, and operational support is available immediately at the end of the phone.
We guarantee you’ll never feel alone. You’ll never have to worry about anything. You’ll be comforted in the knowledge that we place huge value on supporting you and all our other franchisees.
7. How do your training and systems compare to other Franchise organisations?
We’ve been in this business for over 20 years – here in Ireland. We know it inside out. Our training procedures and manuals reflect the focus and attention that has delivered the success story that is Gallagher’s Boxty House. We believe we offer training comparable in quality with the best available in our industry.
With a-b-c type, step-by-step instructions, and an attention to detail that will stagger you, we know we can develop you into a true Boxty expert in a matter of weeks!
We won’t accept everyone as Franchisees, but those that qualify already have the basic skills – we just give them the tools of our trade!
8. How much is the Franchise fee?
The Franchise fee is reviewed after every training course. At the moment it’s just €30,000 +VAT.
9. What does the Franchise fee include?
- Training in Proven Sale & Marketing

And the benefit of 20 years learning, testing and development – which alone could save you more than the franchise fee, by avoiding costly mistakes and saving of time (and labour) during set up!
10. Do I have to pay a monthly management fee?
Yes. Our monthly management service fee is set at just 6% of turnover. This offers incredible value for the ongoing use of the brand and the following support package:
- Use of the Company Extranet

- Central product development
- Site Visits & on going support
- Product supply chain system

11. Any other fees?
There is a national Marketing Fund which is maintained by a 2% turn over fee. This fund is entirely used to purchase national marketing on behalf of the franchise network. Thus franchisees will benefit from marketing that would be uneconomic for a single business to afford.
12. What stops you from excessively putting the price up of stock after I have commenced trading?
Unlike many other Franchise opportunities we do not seek to profiteer from our exclusive supply chain to our franchisees. As such we put into every contract that we will only charge, based on the cost of providing the supply chain service and products – no big margin profiteering in this business!
We put this commitment in to reassure franchisees and to prove that our interest lies in the success of the franchisees business and the turn over they make – our is a long term commitment to success not a quick money grab with high initial franchise fees and un capped supply agreements which franchisees become ties in to.
Certainly this fairness is not demonstrated in many other franchisees, but it is part of the ethical approach that Gallagher’s Boxty House and International Franchise Management Consultants, set up to foster.
